Flagship Illuminale projection mapping on Trier’s Konstantinbasilika, blending historical storytelling, high-energy visuals, and a futuristic finale.
This flagship 3D mapping for the Illuminale event transformed the Konstantinbasilika in Trier into a living canvas, blending music and visuals from multiple artists into one cohesive night-time experience. Across the façade, the film moves through distinct moods and themes, starting with a historical tone that nods to ancient Trier through warmer, textured looks and slower, atmospheric motion that lets the building’s material and weight speak.
As the energy rises, the lighting becomes sharper and the transitions more dynamic, building momentum until the basilica shifts from monument to stage. The peak leans into a high-energy sequence designed to work directly with the beat, using bold color sweeps, fast-moving light streaks, and vibrant patterns that fill the full width of the façade and pull the audience into a shared festival moment.
The film then turns its focus back to the basilica itself, emphasizing its architectural rhythm and history by working with the arches, symmetry, and scale, treating the structure as an active part of the storytelling rather than just a surface. Toward the end, the aesthetic breaks into a futuristic, outer-space inspired look with cooler tones and expansive, cosmic motion that makes the building feel like it opens into another dimension.
